My last day with Netscape / AOL / AOL Time Warner was Mon, Nov 26,
2001, one day before my 6th anniversary with Netscape. I was in IS
and helped manage the Oracle Financials, PeopleSoft HR, Excalibur
Sales Force Automation, iPlanet systems, iCal, BuyerXpert, etc.

I had a great run at a great company. I'm sure my experiences at
Netscape will be unmatched through the rest of my career. The people
I worked with were amazing.

I'm currently married, living in SF with my wife and daughter.

Update (Aug., 2006): I quit a job at Williams-Sonoma, Inc. about a
year ago and started doing IT contracting work as VanderWall Group,
Inc. I'm currently helping an industrial waste management company
roll-out a sales force automation tool and an operational application
to handle dispatching job orders to payroll and billing. I'm working
out of my house in S.F., and have a very flexible schedule. Drop me a
note at bill@vanderwall.com if you want to have lunch or coffee in the
city sometime.

PS - I miss Netscape. I drove my wife past the old campus this past
weekend and reminisced about the good ol' days.

Update: (Aug, 2007): Just started working at Riverbed in SF last
week as Director of IT Business Applications.

Update: (March, 2010): Working at Scientific Learning Corporation
as Sr. Director of IT since July, 2009.

Thanks,
Bill V.

Hi everyone! I started at Netscape in '97 as an ESAM at Bear Stearns &
Co.(The sometimes cool but mostly "Uh-oh, it's Bear on the phone"
account). I was then promoted to SE in the NY Metro region. Then AOL
came, I left. (Not by choice)

Anyway, I then became an SE/Architect at Sun Microsystems specializing
in Java System (previously known as SunONE, iPlanet,
Netscape...) software & interoperability solutions. But now Sun =
Oracle, and I'm a student at Columbia University. I'm pursuing a
Masters in Educational Technology!

9/96 - 10/98

I was in the Sydney, Australia office of Netscape from 1996 til late
1998.

I sacrificed valuable vesting time and stock price to
save my soul from burning at AOL.

Went to Software.com for a few years. Merged with
Phone.com to become Openwave.

Next was AirFlash. Did the whole start-up thing all over again
with all the old Netscape people. We merged with Webraska and got
raped.

Then came BEA.

April 2003, update:
Still at BEA. Going well. Anyone
doing anything out there that is changing the world?

January 2004, update:
BEA still. Same old, same old. No complaints.

Feb 2006, update:
Now at a new startup changing the Java world: Azul Systems.
Based in London. Missing the Sydney warmth.

March 2007, update:
Still at Azul. Having quite a bit of fun with this one actually.

April 2008, update:
Same old, same old Azul. Would quite fancy a new startup though....

October 2008, update:
World is falling apart, recession, doom and gloom. Breeds innovation? Bloody hope so.

December 2009, update:
Woot! Start a new gig in January. A new exciting startup. Stay tuned.

January 2010, update:
Kaazing time!

Netscape Tech Support (Jan. 96 - Mar. 98)

Update January 2010

98-02: QA for Extricity B2B software (acquired by Peregrine - mistake
- too many acquisitions and creative accounting and the general bust
happened anyway)
02-07: QA and development for UCSC Genome Browser - still going at
genome.ucsc.edu
07-current: doing the wild ride all over again at Navigenics (direct
to consumer genetic testing)

Still at heather_trumbower at yahoo dot com and now marginally on
Twitter (htrumbower).

Enjoyed watching Code Rush recently. Also great Jamie interview in

Nov/2009: so much for biennial. My updates seem to be following
Fibonacci in their frequency (or lack thereof). andyw is no more.
These days it's andz @Google. Inbetween I wound up as a research
subject on a high altitude expedition. See you in 2014.
Oct/2006: Time for my semi biennial trip into the vaults of memory
lane and get myself back to the top of the list again. Surprising that
after all this time the memories of Netscape still bring a lump to the
throat. I could put this down to the mind's inability to retain
traumatic memories but for me Netscape will always remain a glorious
sunny day in Silicon Valley surrounded by vibrant people. Always
interested in interesting opportunities though slightly more cynical
of sure fire startups than when I began. sigh reading this has
made me feel old...

Netscape UK PS from 1997-2000. Did some stuff I was genuinely
proud of with people I was genuinely in awe of. Left. Wallowed in self

(well mostly).
